We’ve been working on a new home page design for PinkelStar. Our previous design was thought up very early in the process of building our company and service. Over time our notion of what the service would become has changed a little.
We started out with the idea of making in-app sharing easier for developers. During our beta period we had lots of developers testing the service and providing us feedback. From the feedback we learned 2 things.
1. Although sharing to social networks and e-mail was already possible in mobile apps, developers liked the ability to have one solution that works on both Android and iOS. During the beta test we added e-mail sharing and LinkedIn to the existing sharing capabilities, and these appear in the UI on the fly. The developer doesn’t have to spend any time on that. Time saved that a developer can spend on app features instead.
2. The biggest value for developers turns out to be the social analytics that PinkelStar provides. Understanding how your users are taking your app and its content to their friends on the web provides valuable information. Social analytics help you improve your app and retain users.
We felt now was the time to reflect those lessons in a new home page design. As you can see the new design is cleaner and more to the point. It has a focus on Social Analytics and it describes the added value of PinkelStar for mobile app developers and app users in 3 simple steps: share, discover and measure.

Here is the old design for comparison.

We are happy with or new design and will slowly integrate it into all aspects of our service. We hope it will convince new developers to give the service a try too.
